What is Job Analysis?

• The process of determining specific roles, duties and responsibilities of positions.
• Determining the working conditions and physical demands of positions.

• Determining the contacts and relationships within positions.

• Identification of overall scope and accountabilities of positions.
• Providing information for Human Resources and Managers for purposes of recruitment, training and job evaluation.

What is Job Evaluation?

• The process of determining the value of positions in relation to other positions within the University of Alberta.
• Helps to determine or establish internal relativity by assessing if a position is equal to another, stronger or weaker. The questions asked are: How much stronger? How much weaker? Or Comparable?
• Provides reasonable increases in compensation as jobs increase from Grades 1 through 15 for Support staff or by Hay points from 400 – 1100 for APOs.
• Evaluations of positions are NOT a performance appraisals or rewards!
